About
Mona Rith was born in Graz, Austria and was always looking for new projects. After living in Berlin and London and working for many years as graphic designer and later in the costume departments for national and international film projects, she decided to change path and focus on her ongoing interest in human beings and the need to express herself through material.
After moving to Vienna, she graduated from the University of Applied Arts with a Bachelor of Arts in 2020 and a Master‘s degree in 2021. During her studies, she discovered the potential of experimental weaving and began to explore the processes of weaving to expand them for herself. As she grew in her artistic expression, she became motivated in asking questions through the process of weaving and stepped away from the function of textiles. She creates sculptural woven objects with the focus on textures, storytelling and the dialogue between technique, material and herself.
Today she is a textile artist with a focus on textile material and teaches art to adults at a higher education school in Vienna, Austria, where she also currently lives. The combination of these two fields enriches each other in a very valuable way and there are always new inspiration through interaction. Her work is interconnected with the different work fields in her biografie and places of stay as a life-long journey.
She is member of the European Textile Network and of the Berufsvereinigung der bildenden Künstler Österreichs.
